Kris Lazer is a self-taught documentary and fashion photographer based in New York, working with both film and digital formats. Her practice draws on the rich and inexhaustible history of photography and printing, spanning documentary, portraiture, and fashion.

Lazer began her career in New York shooting in-house for brands within fashion. Over the last decade, her responsibilities evolved, shifting her into director-level positions in marketing and e-commerce for independent labels and luxury fashion houses alike.

In 2023, she returned to photography full-time with a renewed focus on deepening her photographic approach. Through her participation in the Magnum Foundation’s 2024 Paris Summer Program and Winter Intensive, she re-engaged with personal and documentary work centered on the human experience with a particular focus on women’s stories. Over the past year, she has been experimenting with physical manipulations of negatives and prints during post-production, creating altered final images that reflect the subjective nature of the narratives she explores.
